Nana Ato Arthur underscores importance of new regions
Head of Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has observed that the 6 newly created regions by the president will help government to be closer to the governed to ensure accelerated development.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com in an interview, Nana Ato Arthur, implore Ghanaians to be committed to effective decentralization in local governance. He added that Ghana can only be transformed through effective leadership, coordination and implementations of government policies at the decentralized level.

He said if Ghanaians will deepen and strengthen decentralization by buying into the president’s idea of electing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, and Assembly members on partisan basis, the nation can be transformed.

On the newly created regions, he disclosed that his outfit has ensured that the key staffs for the 6 newly created regions are ready for the Regional Ministers and their deputies to set the agenda for the Regional Coordinating Councils.

Allied to the above, Nana Ato Arthur stated that the President has presented 8 vehicles, including three Nissan Patrols and five pick-ups for the coordinating councils to start work with. Also, sites for the construction of administrative office for the regions at their respective regional capitals are ready an work will commence soon.

He said in order to ensure effective administrative and management of a decentralized local governance system, the Local Government Service has initiated a performance monitoring system to ensure performance of staff of the service.
