According to him, they have been doing their best to organise clean up exercise, as well as announce the clean up exercise to shop owners who also take part in the exercise.

He further added that the Assembly does clean up exercise every three to two months, “we have been talking to shop owners to collect the rubbish they generate in front of their shops and also keep their surroundings clean”, he said in an interview.

“We do enforce the bye-laws, we do go to homes to check on cleanliness, but some Ghanaians are so stubborn, President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government have been talking about cleanliness; when we talk of government it is we the people, no one would come from somewhere to do it for us”, he lamented.

He further pointed out that they would have to deploy more people to work on sanitation issues, as there are only thirty-two (32) staff with the help of Zoomlion which is not enough.

Again the issue of education and enforcement of our laws must be stepped-up, “during our time as a young person’s we had sanitation officers moving from house to house, today is not like that we need to bring it back”.

He made this remarks when the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources paid a working visit to the Mallam Atta market in Accra.
