The Paramount Chief of Lawra and some great personalities, a group of gallant young men comprising some volunteers and the recently recruited Youth in Afforestation staff, the Ghana National Fire Service personnel, NADMO, Assemblymen the Municipal Coordinating Director all joined in the fight to dowse the fire and prevent further destruction to the forest.

The fire which could be seen from many angles of the forest was brought to control at about some few minutes to 7pm on Wednesday after the MCE got a call from a resident about the burning forest.

The MCE quickly moved to action with some few young men including his driver, YEA, Coordinator, Nasara Coordinator among others but as aggressive as the fire was, a second fire tender was called from Nandom to support the only tender which was at far end of the forest fighting the fire.

While the tenders were busy dazing the fires at various points of the forest and trying to prevent it from causing havoc to the newly planted seedlings, the MCE and his team were busy whipping the over joyous flames with fresh leaves and branches.

Speaking to the fighters after the battle, the elated MCE who couldn't hide his joy and appreciation for the efforts of people sacrificing their lives to bring the fire under control, thanked all and sundry for the various roles played in that regard.

He also stressed the need for more education against bushfires and any destructive act on the environment. "You people have really shown unflinching love “for Lawra" he added.

There was no immediate cause of the fire but the direction of the fire into the forest made many to suspect some Fulani men around the nearest village called Oribili to be the caused.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and perpetrators will surely be brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.
