MCE meets New Juaben market women
The New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive; Isaac Appaw-Gyasi has assured market men and women within the Municipality to build an extra-modern market centre for the Chiefs and people of the Municipality to boost economic activities.

He said looking at the state of the market within the Municipality, the centre market does not befit Municipal status and as a result management are in the process of finding investors to pre-finance the project to make it befit Municipality status.

The MCE made the assurance during his maiden interaction with market leaders to acquaint himself with problems, suggestions, comments and also serve as opportunity to him to put his visions before the house regarding to the measures outlined to develop Municipality.

He commended the market leaders for their immense contribution towards the development of the Municipality.

According to him, market women play vital roles in the democratic dispensation and the economic development of the country, and the Assembly’s owes it a responsibility to dialogue intensely with them before it takes any decision.

Mr. Appaw-Gyasi explained that the Koforidua Central Market was established in 1928 and since then has not seen any renovation and as a result has out-leaved it useful stage.

Time has come for the Municipality to put it arsenals together to find private investors who will partner the Assembly in order to put-up a first class market centre to raise the image of the Assembly. “And as such the MCE vehemently emphasized that there is nothing impossible under this earth, which he meant, the Assembly under his watch will do everything possible to commence the project.
There is every indication that Juaben South can be redeveloped through the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders” he said.

Mr. Appaw-Gyasi also identified sanitation as one of the core mandates of the Assembly, saying the Assembly would seek to build the capacity of assemblies to improve on sanitation in the various market centers.

He said the Assembly would enhance the capacity of environmental health and sanitation officers to ensure that they carry out their responsibilities to bring about improved sanitation in the Municipality.

Mr. Appaw-Gyasi was optimistic to bring back the ‘Municipal Sanitation Court’ to ensure corporal punishment on sanitation offenders.

The MCE further psyched the minds of the market women present, particularly those at the Agatha Market to start preparing by finding their way out of their current place since the government through the Ministry of Railways Development is working excessively to revamp the railway sector within every corner of the country.

For her part, the Queen Mother of the Koforidua central market, Madam Mary Amportey commended the MCE and his team for the move of developing the Municipality and assured the MCE of their unflinching support to achieve his goal.

She said market women within the Municipality will ensure to disseminate every necessary information to other market women.

The Queen Mother outlined insecurity, sanitation among others as their major challenges facing them at the market centre.
