Kintampo Municipality observes 62nd Independence Anniversary
As it is done annually to mark Ghana’s liberation from colonial servitude, this year was not any different with the Kintampo Municipal Assembly, although the local branches of the various security apparatus in the Municipality.

The ambulance Service, the Ghana Education Service Kintampo and schools found in the Kintampo East Circuit organized the parade to mark the occasion at the Kintampo College of Health and Wellbeing Park under the theme; “Celebrating Peace and Unity”.

The celebration of our independence in the Municipality were also marked with other parades in the four (4) zonal councils under the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly with that of Kintampo as the main event.

School children drawn from twenty (20) Primary Schools and nineteen (19) Junior High schools, Two (2) Senior High Schools and One (1) community Development Vocational Institution as well as members of the security forces took part in this year’s anniversary parade.



In attendance was the National Fire Service Regional Band and the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) band.

The parade also drew spectators from all walks of life and ages. With school children highly visible at the ground.

The representative of his Excellency the President, Nana Akuffo Addo in the Municipality, Hon. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe together with the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Kintampo, Mr. Ayariga and his deputies, the Municipal Police Commander, ACP Gyawu, the Municipal Director of Health Services Mad. Alice Voletor, the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Nelson Addai-Poku, the Municipal Director of Information Services Miss. Rufina Yuoni, also, the president Local Council of churches, Pastor James Akanze Akenzoya, cross section of political parties and all heads of departments as well as Nananom (Mo, Nowase, Kyeremankoma and Wangara) were all present to honor and grace the occasion.

Delivering his speech on his own behalf and on the president’s behalf, the Municipal Chief Executive, hon. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe conveyed greetings from the president known referred to as “Abudani”, putting together the names of the Abudu and Andani gates in the Dagbon chieftaincy.

He asked for re-dedication of the citizenry towards working for a successful country whiles using the day to think of the past and future and by that, those who led us into independence and of those to whom the future belongs. Hon. Sarkodie Baffoe call on resent generation to ensure that due recognition is given to the efforts of past heroes.

He continued by reminding all present that, a nation which was 62 years old could not be referred to as young and thus we should desist from excuses that seek to justify the difficulties we face. He also said Ghana was poised to re-launch her development agenda under His Excellency the President Nana Akufo Addo and that never again were we going to be torn apart partisan but rise in the spirit of peace and unity for the attainment of Ghana beyond Aid and sustain our democracy through accountability and efficient governance.



Hon. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe noted that, the theme for the celebration, peace and unity was most appropriate as Ghana was bone in freedom and social justice but these ideals have been overshadowed by the absence of a sense of national unity and peace paving way for corruption, prolonged disputes and diseases. He then urged traditional overlords to make concerted efforts to find acceptable solution to end all disputes in the Municipality.

He call for the awakening of public interest, patriotism and a sense of national unity. Noting that, the best interest of the child is central to development efforts he stated that, it would unacceptable for a Ghanaian child not to attain his full potential. He indicated that, to this end basic education was free and that, the government will this year pass a legislation to redefine basic education to cover senior high education. He also said school infrastructure will be looked at.

Mr. Sarkodie however lamented on sanitary conditions most especially in our towns and that, resources in this regard was unfortunate and could be channeled to other important facets of life wholes reiterating his determination and resolve to tight and improve sanitation.



In conclusion, he acknowledged the efforts of teachers and students and particularly asked students not to jeopardize their lives whilst asking the citizenry to uphold democracy and live by it.

After the Municipal chief Executive, Mr. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe speech, cultural display by Dr. Saunders Memorial School cultural troupe and March pass by schools and security services. The Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Police Commander and the Municipal Director of Education took salutes from the gallant school children.

Awards were dished out to the best schools in the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with Methodist Junior High School “B” and Modern Preparatory School (MPS) adjudged as the best in the public and private school categories respectively.



In the March pass, Eagles Academy and Adult Education Centre, Just Love Preparatory School and Christ Apostolic School Complex were awarded in the Junior High School division with Modern Preparatory School, Just Love Preparatory School and Eagles Academy and Adult Education Centre awarded in the Junior High School division. Kintampo Senior High School and the center College of Ghana Senior High School were both awarded in the second cycle division.

There was a special commendation for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and Sachet water producers in the Municipality for their special contributions towards the 62nd annual Municipal independence parade as the well as the Ghana Red Cross Society and Scout Association.
