Sawla DCE lauds Assembly members

The District Chief Executive of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Lonsina Barikisu, has lauded Assembly members in the area for their constant show of support, and also attaching urgency and enthusiasm to their responsibilities especially during assembly meetings.

“There cannot be any great pride and no service higher than service to once own people, adding that, “by doing so one’s reward is not only in heaven but your names will also continue to remain in the success story of this District", she added.

The DCE said this when delivering a speech at the first ordinary meeting of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District at the Assembly’s Conference Hall.

Updating members of the Assembly, Madam Barikisu highlighted on major areas like security, internal and external funding, development projects, health, education, agriculture and rural electrification.

Touching on matters of security, she said security issues continue to be paramount and improving due to the general vigilance of citizens, traditional authorities and DISEC. The prevalence of petty stealing and highway robbery cases has been reduced drastically compared to previous years.

She commended all stakeholders for the relative peace, but regrettably informed the house about simmering tension that occurred during the proposed coloration of a substantive chief for the Bobalanyuro community in September 2022.

Madam Barikisu added it took Assembly to feed and fuel vehicles of combined team of security for Sawla and Damongo for two weeks to maintain the peace, adding that security personnel are still managing the feud between the Domyirimbe Tomah's family and Vug Jimah's family Gilinkon over the installation of a Vaglikori (chief priest) for Gilinkon community which has degenerated and have now reach legal and traditional courts at the regional level, Damongo in the Savanna Region.

She quickly admonished the house that any pronouncements in the house amounted to contempt of court.

On revenue mobilization, she said due to certain challenges the Assembly could not reach its revenue target of GHs 150,201.00 for the year 2022 but only mobilized GHs 117,486.92 representing 78.21% as of 31st October 2022.

The money, however, was used in procuring stationery, fuel for official vehicles, and maintenance of Assembly vehicles among others.

The amount she said represents the total IGF for the year 2022 since we are in December, she added.
