LEAP payment starts at Tain
The Department of Social Welfare in the Tain District has started payment of the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) beneficiaries in the District.

The LEAP programme is a social cash transfer with the aim of alleviating short term poverty and encourage long term human capital development.

Mr. Joseph Boakye Yiadom, the District Director of the Social Welfare Department revealed that 42 communities and a total household beneficiary of 199 and 851 individuals are the beneficiaries of the programme in the District.

All the beneficiaries would be paid electronically using e-zwich card where biometric finger print is use to verify beneficiaries before payment.



Addressing the beneficiaries, Madam Charity Akua Oforiwaa Dwommoh the District Chief Executive said the implementation of the LEAP programme represents government of Ghana’s vision of creating an all-inclusive society through the provision of sustainable mechanisms for the protection of persons living in situation of extreme poverty, vulnerability and exclusion.

The DCE advised them to ensure the education of their children since education is the key success. She assured them of her readiness to support the educational needs of the youth in the district and her doors are always open them all.

The beneficiaries thanked government through the District Chief Executive for the support given them.
