Techiman North Assembly supports PWDs
Persons living with disabilities in the Techiman North District received various forms of support from the district assembly in fulfillment of the 3% allocation of the district assembly’s common fund to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Eighty-eight (88) beneficiaries received the support, from three categories ranging from economic ventures, training and school fees, as well as medical attention and device support categories.

Beneficiaries from the economic ventures category received refrigerators and deep freezers, fertilizers, weedicide spray machines, bags of rice, sugar, sewing machines, as well as grinding machines.

The assembly presented this equipment to the beneficiaries’ base on their own request, taking into consideration the type of business each beneficiary selected.

Under the training and school fees categories, twenty two (22) beneficiaries received the support, thirteen (13) received cheques of various sums to support their education, five (5) others received sewing machine and sewing kits, whiles the remaining two were paid for their training in soap making.

However, under the medical attention category, fourteen disabled persons were supported for medical assistance, surgery, and purchase of various devices; beneficiaries were selected across the district.

The District Chief Executive, Peter Mensah said this year’s support for persons with disability is different from the previous year’s support where beneficiaries use to receive petty cash, but at the end most of them don’t use the resources for the purpose in which it was intended for.

He stressed that, this year’s method of disbursement is in line with the new patriotic party Agenda of job creation, poverty alleviation and economic empowerment for persons living with disability.

Hon. Peter said the beneficiaries of this year’s disbursement are those that have never benefited before and spells out the criteria of disbursement for clarity seek.

He used the opportunity to thank his Excellency president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for releasing all the arrears of the common fund allocation from last quarter of 2016 to third quarter 2017.

He urged all beneficiaries to be serious in their choosing carrier and put whatever they have received in to good use.

The chairman for the occasion Hon. Martin Obeng, the District Chief Executive for Sunyani West thanked the assembly for their commitment in support of persons with disability and also urged beneficiaries to manage their businesses effectively.

The District Coordinating Director, Mr. K. B Tang expressed his excitement for the day, and said the president’s assurance of job creation was not to employee people in the formal sector as, accountants, engineers and coordinating directors, but the essence was to empower people in the private sector just like we are witnessing today.

He said this is an avenue to show that the president is on course with his promise of job creation, he entreat all to keep politics aside and assured the general public that the beneficiaries to receive these items are not only new patriotic party members but followers of other political parties irrespective of your political color.

He urged beneficiaries to put the items to good use. He assured beneficiaries that the next disbursement their names will not be part again, this will make way for others to also benefit.
