The projects included spot improvement of Zabzugu-Tikpralanyili feeder road, construction of water closet institutional toilet with mechanized borehole and solar panel at Zabzugu Senior High School (SHS), construction of two three-unit classroom blocks for Zabzugu SHS, and a solar mechanized borehole at Nakpali.

The rest are toilet facilities at Kalegu and Tasundo Junior High Schools (JHS), supply of 90 dual desks, teachers tables, and cupboards to Kalegu JHS, supply of hospital equipment to two CHPS compounds, renovation of a bungalow and rehabilitation and furnishing of a town council office at Zabzugu.

Mr Ahamed Abukari Iddirisu, District Chief Executive for Zabzugu, listed the projects during a town hall meeting organized by Zabzugu District Assembly at Zabzugu to give an account of his stewardship for 2017 and 2018.

Mr Iddirisu’s account highlighted developments in all sectors of the district including education, health, agriculture and social welfare saying even though staff strength was low in all those sectors, the Assembly had made significant gains.

He said efforts are ongoing to increase the number of beneficiaries under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty programme to ensure that more vulnerable people are supported to improve their living conditions.

He expressed confidence that government’s initiatives such as Planting for Food and Jobs, One-District One-Factory, One-Village One-Dam, Free SHS and Nation Builders’ Corps, which the district is a beneficiary, would go a long way to ameliorate the plight of the people in the area.

He called on the people not to sit on the fence but to support government to succeed saying “I admit there is still much more to be done to bring real change in the lives of our people and this will require the participation of each of us.”

Majority of participants at the meeting complained about the poor road network in the district and the stalled eastern corridor road stretch that passed through the area calling on government to fix them to promote business activities in the district.

Mr Adam Azumah, a teacher at the Zabzugu SHS, said there is the need to ensure empowerment of women in the district to take up leadership positions to promote gender equality in the district.
