Akrofuom celebrates 62nd Independence Anniversary
With pomp and pageantry, the people of Akrofuom-Adansi in the newly created Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region celebrated the nation’s Independence Anniversary for the first time as a district.

People from all walks of life in the district converged at the Akrofuom Methodist school park for the colourful celebration which had 16 schools, two cadet corps and three social clubs in attendance with Richard Gyekye of the Ghana Police Service as the parade commander.

The principal streets of Akrofuom were adorn with national colours and enthusiasm of the public were whipped as the pupils and cadet corps of the various schools marched from their respective schools to the parade grounds for the event.

Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Maurice Jonas Woode, who happened to be the first DCE to take salutes at such an event in the district, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Nananom and all citizens of Akrofuom for the unflinching support and prayers for the Nana Addo led government as well as his administration in the district. He also commended them for their peaceful co-existence which has brought the nation and the district this far despite the many challenges we have faced as a district, Constituency and nation.



Mr. Woode reiterated that the celebration of independence anniversary should be of importance to all citizens since it enables us to celebrate the strength that comes from speaking with a united voice.

He added that the celebration also affords us to celebrate the coming together of different people to make the united and strong nation of Ghana, using the diversity that goes into the weaving of the kente fabric as an example.

“Just watch the master kente and fugu weavers at work, and you will appreciate the strength that comes from the coming together of different and varied yarns to make a strong fabric with intricate and beautiful designs” he said.



At the end of the march past by the pupils, certificates of participation were presented to all the schools that participated in the event to remind them of being part of the first celebration of the event in the district since its creation.

At the kindergarten level Bethany K.G of Akrofuom placed first, Okyerekrom K.G also placed second and Akrofuom District Assembly K.G also took the third position.

At the primary level, Akrofuom Roman Catholic Primary placed first, Bethany Primary placed second and Havard Primary settled for third.


Akrofuom Roman Catholic JHS once again took the first position in the JHS category, followed by Akrofuom District Assembly JHS and Akrofuom Methodist JHS placed in third.

In attendance was the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Stephen Asante, Hon. Peter Amponsah (PM), Nana Asare Bediako, Ahenemahene of Akrofuom, DSP C. Adagbe of the Ghana Police Service, DOII Alfred Quartey of the Ghana Fire Service, representative of the various political parties, teachers, Assembly members, heads of departments, clergy, parents and the general public.
