According to him, initiatives such as the “Planting for Food and Jobs” programme by the Akuffo Addo government was aimed at increasing the country’s agric production to feed the various industries.

The programme, he said, will among other things create over 750,000 direct and indirect jobs in various parts of the country.

Dr. Letsa made this known at a mini-durbar to welcome an investment company, "Unigreen Investments" for acquiring over 2500 hectares of Land in the North Tongu District for Commercial Farming.

The Investor is also expected to put up a rice mill and a sugar processing factory in the District.

Assuring that all the necessary assistance have been put in place to guarantee the success of the programme, the Minister said the future is bright as government has already put in place initiatives such as subsidizing fertilizers and deploying agric extension officer to help make faming attractive to the youth.

On their part, the Chiefs and people of the area also expressed their gratitude to Minister and Pledge to Support the Investor to Expand Operations and bring development to the area.

Meanwhile, the minister also used the opportunity to inspect an abandoned irrigation canal and Pumping Station Project in the district which was funded by the African Development Bank (ADB).

Dr Letsa who was obviously not happy about the current state of the project however, indicated that fund will soon be made available to rehabilitate the project to enhance commercial farming.
