AKUAPEM N: Larteh Salvation Army calls for support from government

The Larteh Salvation Army Primary School in the Akuapem North Minicipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has called on government to come to their aid as the school is currently suffering from infrastructure deficit.

According to the headmaster Mr. Ebo Quansah the school which was established about some 30 years ago has not seen any major maintenance.

Mr. Ebo Quansah who was speaking to the Media after receiving some donation in the form of painting materials to add some beauty to the kindergarten block from As I Grow, a non- governmental organisation in the locality said, "We are currently suffering from infrastructure deficit as our classroom blocks are on the verge of collapsing, currently none of our doors are functioning properly, our celling in the classrooms together with the roofing needs immediate attention".

The headmaster added that "the school is also lacking the necessary teaching and learning materials for the Kindergarten department and the library is also nothing to go with as it lacks the necessary books to be read by pupils in the school".

According to the headmaster who is barely four months old in office lamented how the infrastructure deficit has affected the enrollment of the school as parents every day redraw their children from the school because the school cannot boast of a computer laboratory.

"Our enrollment is gradually reducing day in day out, parents keep redrawing their children because we are lacking computer laboratory. We can only boost of a desktop computer so teachers do use their phone in teaching information technology which I believe is not the best".

Mr. Ebo Quansah ceased the opportunity to appreciate the efforts made by the Chief Executive Officer of As I Grow, Isaac Debrah Bekoe for his unflinching support to the school over the years and then called on the Government, the Member of Parliament, the Salvation Army Administration and benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the school.

On the other hand the Chief Executive Officer of As I Grow organisation Mr. Isaac Debrah Bekoe who was worried about the state of the school observed that "my outfit was invited to come to the aide of the school to help in the renovation process which I find it necessary, so I am here today to support the school with some painting materials to take care of kindergarten block"

He emphasised that "in my assessment the school needs a cash amount of about GHS10,000.00 to take care of their proposal which includes, painting of their school, changing of doors, furnishing of Library with books, Supplying of KG department with learning and playing materials".

Mr Debrah Bekoe Isaac explained that, "without improvement in educational facilities, there would not be effectiveness in curriculum implementation, even though we are financially bankrupt we are starting with the painting of the kindergarten block saying it is part of our mandate to help our rural Communities in terms of improving our education system".

He used the opportunity to also call on the natives of Larteh in Ghana and diaspora, institutions, NGO’s, philanthropist and government to join in the betterment of the education of children in Larteh and other rural areas in Ghana
