According to him, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) always resort to Town Hall Meetings to involve the people in local governance, especially in key areas such as fee-fixing resolution, budget preparation, medium term development plans, and execution of plans.

“Town Hall Meetings also enable policy makers, businesses, civil society organisations and the citizenry engage each other and dialogue on how to work together to achieve the desired goals”, the MCD noted.

Mr Osei-Asibey, who was speaking at a recent town hall meeting held at Elmina, the municipal capital, further stated that meetings help to promote social accountability and improve transparency and public access to information and thus called on the people gathered to contribute effectively to make the programme more participatory and lively to enable the assembly achieve the desired goals.

“It is also expected that these programmes at the long last would lead to quality service delivery at the MMDAs in particular and at the national level” he added.

He expressed appreciation to the government for strengthening decentralization, adding that the process has created an enabling environment, using the Assembly structure to empower local communities and the general public to be part of decision-making process at all levels of governance.

He encouraged chiefs, Hon. Assembly members, officials from the Ministry of Information, Civil society organisations, staff of the Assembly and public servants present to take keen interest in the meetings in order to ensure massive development of the area.
