Sunyani West Assembly on course to achieving development targets-DCE
The Sunyani West District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region is said to be on course to achieving it development targets set for the year 2018.

Mr. Martin Obeng, the District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known in his sessional address during the First Ordinary Meeting of the Sunyani West District Assembly held last week Tuesday.

He said several targets such as Security, Revenue Mobilization, Education, Agric and Health can be achieved within the year.

SECURITY

On Security, Mr. Martin Obeng said 200 Street Bulbs have been received by the Assembly to improve street lighting system in the District.

He said this have enhanced the protection of citizenry in the District. He noted that apart from Nsoatre which was hit by mysterious deaths where three people were reported to have been killed by unknown assailants, the situation has been brought under control.

He therefore commended the security agency for working hard to bring sanity into the area. “That notwithstanding, the security situation in the District is generally peaceful and calm. This can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the District Security Council and other stakeholders”, he emphasized.

REVENUE MOBILIZATION

The Assembly also made progress in revenue mobilization from the beginning of the year to date. The Assembly has generated GH¢155,763.38 out of a target of GH¢516,700.00 representing 30.1%.

The District Chief Executive blamed numerous rate defaulters who have not fulfilled their financial obligation to the Assembly which is preventing it from reaching it development goals.

He hinted the Assembly is preparing to take legal action against all defaulters in the District. “I will therefore appeal to all honorable members to urge their electorate to honor their financial obligation to the Assembly”, he said.

The DCE encourage all Assembly Members to be involved in the revenue mobilization of the Assembly, saying it is their shared responsibility.



EDUCATION

On education the DCE said, the Assembly continue to consider the provision of quality education in the District as a priority. As a result, the Education Directorate has put pragmatic measures to ensure the improvement of quality education in the District. Among the measures he sited were intensive monitoring procedure have been instituted in the District to achieve quality education.

He announced that all tranches of capitation grants arrears for 2016/2017 academic year have been received by the directorate and disbursed to all public basic schools in the district per the criteria for the disbursement. He added the first trench for 2017/2018 academic year has been received and disbursed accordingly.

AGRICULTURE

In the Agriculture Sector, the DCE said, Sunyani West Assembly continues to give attention to the promotion of Agric in the District. Mr. Martin Obeng said the Planting for Food and Jobs in the District is ongoing and this year focus is on four key commodity value chain, Maize, Rice, Soya Beans and Sorghum. The campaign he said will all promote Peri-Urban Vegetable production.

HEALTH
Mr. Martin Obeng also said the District was working seriously to promote quality and accessible health care through the provision of health facilities across the District. In line with this, the Assembly is working around the clock to upgrade the Kwatire Polyclinic into a Hospital and also considering upgrading the Chiraa Health Center.

The DCE said the Brong-Ahafo Medical outreach team with the support of Sun City Media and MTN organized a free surgical outreach programme at Kwatire Polyclinic from 28th March to 1st April, 2018 where 70 cases of major and minor surgeries were performed.
