Atwima Nwabiagya Assembly holds townhall meeting

The Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has held its townhall meeting at Nkawie, the municipal capital.

The meeting which was held at the forecourt of Nkawie Chief’s Palace was organised by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Information Service Department and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development was aimed at bringing governance closer to the citizens through interaction between ministers, parliamentarians, opinion leaders and the general public.

Delivering the keynote address at the program, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Michael Amoah Awuku disclosed that since his tenure in office, he has visited most of the communities in the municipality to have personal interactions with them.

He said the town hall meeting is a platform created for members of the community to raise their concerns and discuss challenges about developmental issues in their communities; and used the opportunity to highlight and explain government policies and programmes to the citizens.

The MCE gave a pictorial evidence on all developmental projects, taking his time to explain vividly on all of them.

The Ashanti Regional Director of information, Nana Akrasi Sarpong highlighted on the government’s flagship policies, adding that one major policy which most people don’t understand is the double track secondary school education system.

He explained that the system divides the entire student population and staff into two different tracks, while one track is in school, the other would be on vacation.

Mr. Akrasi Sarpong concluded that the double track system would help increase the number of students enrolled into the free secondary school.

Dignitaries in attendance were nananom, Zongo chiefs, DCE of Atwima Kwanwoma, DCE of Atwima Nwabiagya North, Regional Police Commander, Education Director, Agriculture Director amongst others.
