MAMPONG: Senior Citizens honoured on Republic Day
Senior Citizens in the Mampong Municipality were treated to good music, good food and advice on healthy living in their old age on 2nd July 2018 at the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Thomas Appiah Kubi.

The short but colourful program was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, Thomas Appiah Kubi, Rockson Kofi Agyekum, First Municipal Chief Executive when Mampong became a municipal, Hon Mohammed Kwadwo Aboasu, immediate past Municipal Chief Executive under NDC administration, Nana Boakye Atonsa, Mampong Gyaasehene who represented Mampong Hene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu 11, Nana Kwadwo Wuo, Asinee Abusuapanyin Daaho, Health Promotion Officer of the Health Directorate, Mr .Collins Takyi, Chief Imam, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani, Hon Assembly members, Invited Senior Citizens and the media.

In his welcome address, Hon Thomas Appiah Kubi noted that gathering of this nature was very vital for our continuous survival. It offers us the platform to meet new persons, link up with old friends, dance the boredom off, update ourselves on happenings in the municipality and also listen to the wise counselling of our senior members of the society.

He enumerated a number of initiatives and interventions his administration has put in place to ameliorate the standard of living of people in the municipality. Among them included the reshaping and reconstruction of Mampong roads, Increase in the number of households presently enjoying the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) to 2272 households. Mampong Municipal came second in terms of municipals and districts that had the highest records of LEAP household registration in the whole country.



On quality health care delivery, the president’s representative disclosed that four government bungalows were currently under renovation and would soon be completed to house specialist doctors who were on their coming to serve the municipal .Surgeon specialist, Gynecologist, would all be in the municipality to augment the healthcare delivery.

Hon Appiah Kubi also took the opportunity to inform the over 80 senior citizens of the assembly’s free mock examination for J.H.S form 3 students to adequately prepare them before they wrote the just ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) hoping that this would go a long way to restore our image that had gone down in terms of our BECE performance and ranking in the region.

Before ending his speech, he appealed to the gathering to act as ambassadors of change and ensure that they lead a campaign to expose people who throw rubbish and other substances in our water bodies.

Mr. Collins Takyi, Municipal Health Promotion officer advised the gathering to adopt healthy lifestyle, desist from excessive sex and eat more fruits. He further encouraged them to form friendship groups where they would regularly visit and interact with each other to easy boredom.

During interaction section, many of the people gathered commended the Municipal Chief Executive for his initiatives and programs especially on roads, and appealed to him to ensure that law were strengthened to effectively deal with people who dumb rubbish into gutters and river bodies when it rains.
