Banda Constituency identified as major flah point in election 2016
The Banda Constituency in the Brong Ahafo region has been identified by the Ghana Police Service as one of the major potential violence hot spots in the forthcoming elections.

This was disclosed by the Station Officer at the Banda Ahenkro Police station, Inspector Charles Saviour at a forum organized by the National Commission for Civic Education with support from the European Union for political Youth activists at Banda Ahenkro, the capital of the Banda District.

Inspector Charles Saviour said the police recorded incidence of violence during the registration exercise and have to call for re-enforcement to restore law and order.

Participants who were drawn from the Banda and Tain constituencies were taken through the Public Order Act, the Electoral Processes and sanctions and overview of Public Elections Regulation, CI 94 to make the participants who are usually at the forefront of violent perpetration during election appreciate the electoral processes and the Public Order Act.

Officials of the National Commission for Civic Education led by the Regional Director, Mr. Issah Nasagri also took participants through what constitutes electoral fraud, the need for electoral justice, elements of electoral justice and factors for effective, efficient and sustainable electoral justice system.

The Youth Activists were also taken through the Political Parties’ code of conduct and directive principles of state policy.

The programme was under the theme “Empowering the Youth to stand up for Ghana a Peaceful elections 2016”. The objectives of the forum was sensitize political party youth  on their roles towards ensuring peaceful elections in 2016, engaging the youth to identify their concerns about the coming elections, to solicit the commitment of the political party  youth activists towards ensuring peaceful elections and to make the use of violence to resolve political difference unattractive.

Mr. Nasagri urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence but work to sustain the peace. Participants were signed a communique to work towards ensuring peaceful elections before, during and after the 2016 polls
