The long standing battle between the incumbent presiding member and his opponent was finally settled on the 9th of May, after the assembly members cast their ballots.
Hon Gabriel Ansah Sasraku, the incumbent and Hon Michael Owusu had both contested with each other for the third time yesterday.
It was fierce battle between the two in the previous contest. However, yesterday’s battle had a turn around, ending in favor of Hon Michael Owusu.
At the end of the voting, Hon Michael had 28 votes, representing 56.7% whiles Hon Gabriel Ansah Sasraku had 9 votes also representing 43.3%. Michael Owusu was therefore declared the winner by the municipal electoral officer Mr. Samuel Ofori.
The presiding member elect was subsequently sworn into office by the municipal magistrate, His Worship, Kwaku Baah.
In his acceptance speech, the presiding member, Hon Michael Owusu pledge to work with all inclusively to bring about the development of the municipality, and adding that issues that are raised for discussion in the house should always be addressed to, but not with emotions.
The outgoing presiding member, on his part, pledged his inflicting support for the newly elected presiding member.
