SUNYANI W: DCE commissions 6-unit classroom at Attakrom
The Sunyani West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Martin Obeng, has commissioned a Six Unit Classroom Block for pupils of Yeboah Pene D/A Basic School for the people at Attakrom, a suburb of Chiraa in the district.

The school block which was funded by GETFund at the cost of GH?399,260.01 also has urinal facility.

In his address, the DCE thanked his predecessor Madam Agnes Kusi for starting the project in the community, and added that it was government’s responsibility to provide the basic infrastructure for development.

He cautioned authorities of the school to develop good maintenance culture for the school to last.

The DCE also urged the people to take good care of the facility since a lot of communities were in dire need of similar facilities within the district. He advised parents to ensure that their children are duly enrolled now that government has provided them with a modern school block.

Mr. Martin Obeng also urged parent to allow teachers the chance to discipline and train their children so that they can grow to be good role models in the society. He was however, quick to add that, “there are times the work get very hard as teachers but that they should take the children as their own and train them well since the Assembly will not hesitate in taking action against any teacher in case report get to them.”

Touching on some government policies, the DCE noted that President Akufo Addo’s policy in education is for all school children in the country to enjoy Free Education from Kindergarten to Senior High School (SHS). He said government last year started the Free SHS policy in the country and a meal for day students.

He also said government was providing teaching and instructional materials to improve teaching and learning.
On his part, Headmasters of the school, Mr. Apenkwa Peter appealed to the government to expand the School Feeding Programme to cover the school and also provide them with additional classroom furniture, water facility and text books to improve teaching and learning and increase enrollment.

The Chief of Chiraa, Nana Mintah Afari reechoed the Headmaster’s appeal by calling on the government to provide the school with water, text books, furniture and enrollment onto the School Feeding Programme.

Queen Mother of Chiraa, Nana Yeboah Pene II donated GHs 4,200.00 to help procure text Books and other learning materials for the school.
