National Farmers’ Day award winners tour Central Gonja
As part of activities leading to this year's National Farmers Day held on December 7, 2018 in Tamale, the National Award Winners for various categories have undertaken a tour to some selected districts in the northern region where the program is to be held.

In line with this, the National Award Winners visited the Central Gonja District where they were warmly welcomed by the District Chief Executive, Mahama Mustapha.

The DCE expressed his happiness for the visit and took the advantage to brief them on the agricultural opportunities that exist in the district such as rich vast land, coupled with a relatively peaceful environment.



He remarked that the Central Gonja District was the largest in the region covering five (5) traditional areas all noted for agriculture.

The team later was led to the Diamond Savannah Company; producers of Diamond Cement to abreast themselves of how the cement plant operates.



Thereafter, a courtesy call was made on the overload of the Buipe Traditional Area; His Eminence Abdulai Jinapor II. The traditional ruler congratulated them for their immense contribution to the development of Ghana, and encouraged them to keep up with the hard work even though successive governments had failed to give them the full attention the sector deserves.



The chief donated a bull and 50 tubers of yam to the team for lunch as a way of expressing his happiness at their visit.

In rounding up the trip, the team visited the Shea Nut Processing Company in Buipe to as usual, see at first-hand how the processing of shea nuts into oil was done since this was also an area of interest to them as farmers.
