TANO S: Agric Census Zonal Training held for field officers in Bechem
About 60 field officers recruited to conduct this year’s agriculture census in the country have begun 8-days (16-25/04/18) workshop to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to enable them to effectively collect the necessary data for the exercise.

The participants from Tano North, Tano South, Asutifi North and Asutifi South formed the Bechem Zone with similar exercise currently on going for all Municipal and Districts across the region by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

The Municipal Director of MoFA, Mr. Kyei Baffour Owusu Achaw in an address said a successful exercise to provide an accurate data base for agricultural planning and development in the country.

He therefore tasked the field officers to see exercise as an important act in the country’s quest to revamp the agricultural subsector to address the nation’s food and nutritional needs.

Mr. Owusu Achaw therefore appealed to the participants to take the training serious for the success of the programme to serve as their contribution to national development.

The Tano South Municipal Director of the GSS, Mr. Bernard Oduro on his part said data from the field will enable policymakers to make informed decisions and effectively allocate resources for equitable development.



He warned non serious and incompetent participants will be withdrawn and urged them to concentrate on the training, share experiences and acquire the needed skills for effective data collection on the field.

He appealed to chiefs, religious, opinion leaders and developmental partners to partner and assist MoFA and GSS to make the exercise a success.

Participants expressed delight about the training and pledged to use the knowledge acquired to build a reliable data base for the nation.

They were taken through introduction to Ghana’s census of agriculture (2016-2019), definitions and concepts, use of listing forms, completing core module household questionnaires and completing institutional module questionnaires.
