The DCE, who was speaking at the Green Ghana Day at Asebi, said Planting for Food and Jobs are opportunities Ghanaians can tap into to transform the economy into a healthy and climate friendly future.

He therefore urged the citizenry to develop the habit of planting trees in their surroundings to gain from its diverse benefits.

Mr. Offei urged Ghanaians not to sit on the fence but support the Green Ghana project to contribute to the survival of future generations.

According to the DCE, it is sad to mention that Ghana's forest cover has depleted rapidly in the last 10 years over an alarming rate due to deforestation, land degradation, bush burning among other negative practices.

"We in Shai-Osudoku are proud to be the pace- setters having planted over 1000 trees across our 22 electoral areas and the forest reserve in 2021", he said.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Madam Linda Akweley Ocloo condemned the swift depletion of the forest reserve citing the historical Dodowa forest as a typical example which has become a pale shadow of itself.

“We cannot continue to exploit our natural forests for financial gain without careful planning and the commitment to reafforestation” She said.

The MP therefore called on the Assembly and the Forestry Commission to up their game and institute stringent measures to protect what remains.
