Veep celebrates Kobine Festival with people of Lawra
The Vice President of the Republic, H. E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia joined Naa Abeifaa Karbo III, the chiefs and people of Lawra in the Upper West Region to climax the commemoration of the 43rd edition of the Kobine festival.

He indicated that the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been working round the clock to address the teething challenges that confront Lawra and Ghana as a whole.

"Government has in the past three years made huge investments in the Lawra municipality to modernise agriculture, improve production sufficiency, achieve food security and make farming more profitable to farmers. Currently a total number of 5,744 farmers comprising, 4,868 males and 876 females are benefiting from the flagship’ Planting for Food and Jobs Programme.


Again, government through the Lawra Municipal Assembly has purchased and distributed about 120,000 cashew seedlings to farmers across the municipality under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD)".

Under the Infrastructure for Poverty Alleviation (IPEP), government is constructing; 7 Water Closet toilets with mechanised boreholes in selected Communities in the area, 8 mechanised boreholes are also under construction, a fence wall is being constructed at the Lawra municipal hospital to address the flooding situation, a clinic is also under construction at Birifoh Baapari and the renovation of slaughter houses in the municipality.



He used the opportunity to informe the gathering that thanks to the good economic management of their government, 80% of all road contractors who are owed monies by government (most of who were existed before we came into office) will be fully paid between October and November this year. The remaining 20% will be paid 40% of what they are owed now and the balance will be paid subsequently.

This should bring major relief to our contractors across the country.



He urged the Paramount Chief for the Lawra traditional area, his chiefs and people to continue to be supportive and cooperative toward the policies that are being rolled out by the government.
