The Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana has began organizing a series of regional workshops for its members, t to promote and guarantee the highest quality of nursing and midwifery care to the public.

Under the title: ethico-legal issues in OPD/Ward Management for Nurses and Midwives, the workshops would among other things, build the capacity of participants to become competent Ward Managers, and re-orient them on their legal responsibilities in the practise of nursing and midwifery.

Mr. Felix Nyante, Acting Registrar of the Council, who addressed the participants at the Upper West Regional workshop at Wa, called on Nurses and Midwives to change their poor attitudes and behaviours towards patients and clients.

Having risen to the position of Nurse Managers, he said they should appreciate the concerns of patients, clients and the general public, by applying the best practices of nursing and midwifery care.

Let us use the opportunity offered by this workshop to change the image of nursing and midwifery practice in Ghana as the standard of nursing and midwifery practice that we know is not what we see today in our wards.

Mr. Nyante appealed to Managements of health facilities to enforce the wearing of name-tags by their nursing and midwifery staff.

He announced that the Council had opened offices in all the 10 regional capitals.

Participants at the workshop came from hospitals, clinics and Nursing and Midwifery Training Schools in the region.
