Efforts at promoting access to quality health care have received a boost with the inauguration of a GH¢ 666,000.00 hospital at Jamasi in the Sekyere South District.

It has maternity, laboratory, operating theatre, ultra sound, an out-patient and in-patient departments.      A mortuary, urology and prostate cancer centre are also to be added.

The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong built the facility with support from Manos Unidas, an Italy-based charity.

The Most Reverend Joseph Osei Bonsu, Catholic Bishop of the Diocese, said the objective was to assist take care of the health needs of the people as they seek to promote their spiritual growth.

He spoke of plans to provide nurses quarters and doctors accommodation. 

Named after the late Pope John Paul II, the project was initiated in1998.

Mr Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, a former Chief of Staff, described the completion of the hospital as a big relief to the population.

He advised the people to have a sense o ownership for the facility and to patronize it.

Madam Rebecca Dokurugu, Asante-Mampong Director of Health Services, said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has an ultimate aim of ensuring quality and accessibility of health care to Ghanaians.

She said it had come to complement the GHS’s effort at bridging the equity gap by bringing healthcare to the door step of the people and pledged to give every support towards efficient running of the hospital.

Nana Adu Gyamfi Amoapong, Omanhene of Jamasi, praised the Catholic Church for responding to the health needs of the people.
