The speed breakers also known as speed bumps, create an unfamiliar feeling when driving over them. They would compel careless drivers to slow down on the road, thereby averting situations where pedestrians are knocked down by cars.

They were constructed at high risk sections of roads in communities such as Nkenkeansu, Akomadan and Afrancho in order to improve road safety and reduce the accident rate.

Offinso North District Chief Executive, David Kwasi Asare Boakye said a number of pedestrians have been knocked down in these communities hence more than three-quarters of the accidents that happen as a result of human error.

He disclosed: “Many of our people have been knocked down and killed by drivers who failed to observe road signs. Some motorists always fail to adhere to the 50km driving requirements as demanded by the road traffic regulations”.

Mr. Boakye expressed gratitude to officials of the Ghana Highways Authority for their quick response to their quest as regards the construction of the speed bumps.

He admonished pedestrians and drivers to observe road traffic regulations to avoid needless accidents on our roads.
