TANO S: citizens schooled on the role of the Assembly
The Tim Aid Africa Ghana, the Centre for Democratic Development, Open Society for West Africa in collaboration with the Tano South Municipal Assembly has embarked on a one- day stakeholders’ meeting to educate the citizenry on the role of the Assembly.

It also looked at modalities for the preparation of the Assembly’s Annual Action Plan, Budget and also solicit views from the participants on the methodology used by the Assembly to prepare its work plan and budget.

The Municipal Chief Executive, said the objective of the programme is to deepen the Ghana’s democracy by the Centre for Democratic Development, Open Society for West Africa to augment the local government system.

Mr. Takyi said this stakeholders’ meeting has taken place in many communities of the Municipality of which Dwomo is no exception. He said the programme also offers opportunity to citizens to contribute their inputs into the Assembly’s work plan.

The MCE said the communal spirit that existed in the past and accelerated development has completed died down with the introduction of the Local Government Act, and informed all opinion leaders to play a leading role in organizing communal labour to embark on development projects.

He said the Assembly has awarded twenty (20) seater toilet facility to a contractor to be built at Dwomo and urged that the project would be completed in three months to make the residents of Dwomo have a better place of convenience.

Hon. Takyi stressed that since Assembly could not meet its revenue target last year, it has begun the implementation of revenue mobilization paperless system to ensure that more revenue is collected by the Assembly, adding that when enough revenue is mobilized by the Assembly it would be able to undertake more intervention programmes to improve the living standards of the people.

In another development, Mr. Isaac Kwabena Kakpeibi, the Director of the Tim Aid Africa Ghana’s sensitization programme at the Brong Ahafo Region said the purpose of the programme is to make the citizenry contribute their quota towards the preparation of the Assembly’s work plan and budget. He said the programme offers opportunities to the Assembly to give account on projects which it has been able to perform in the Municipality under His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration and also to inform the populace on areas in which the Assembly get money to finance its projects.

The Planning Officer for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Mr Franklin Walier who took the participants through planning said that the Medium Term Planning always has the main objectives and such objectives are the main vision of the government. He said, planning goes with objectives, execution and implementation and stressed that since planning brings development, there is the need for the Assembly to plan effectively and efficiently to ensure people get basic necessities.

The Budget Analyst for Tano South Municipal Assembly, Mr Isaac Owusu Sekyere echoed that since Planning goes with budgeting, there is the need for the Assembly to budget its development projects to ensure the prioritized ones are executed. He said, it is significant on the part of the Assembly to solicit views from participants before preparing fee fixing and hinted that the Assembly finances its administrative work through the use of Internally Generated Fund whilst the common funds are also used by the Assembly to finance some specific projects approves in the Assembly’s Annual Action Plan by the government.

Nana Koto Asamoah III, the Dwomohene who chaired the programme said his doors are opened to all those who want to execute projects at Dwomo and informed all present to support the MCE to implement the government policies and programmes to help the Municipality to develop.
