His comments comes after the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, issued a stiff directive to Exton Cubic Group Limited, to discontinue exploration of bauxite in the Tano Offin Forest reserve because their three mining leases are invalid.

According to the Minister, the failure of Exton Cubic to obtain an environmental permit, operations permit as well as various statutory infractions leading to the purported grant of the three mining leases to the company render the purported leases invalid and of no effect.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Okay FM today, Mr. Darko assured that the assembly is poised to cooperate fully and throw its weight behind any mining firm which produces genuine and verifiable documents to extract bauxite from the reserve.

He however, denied that the decision by the government to revoke Exton Cubic’s license was politically motivated, adding that the move was only aimed at safeguarding our forest reserves and protecting the interest of the people.

In other development, an Assembly Member for Nyinahin Electoral Area, Baba Yaro, also applauded government for stepping in to revoke their license. According to him, the move would go a long way to help government win its fight against illegal mining in the country.

He assured their support as an assembly to protect the interest of the people.
