The project which has already commenced with the contractor on site is expected to be completed within 6 months, with the total cost estimated at 10 million Ghana cedis.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Boafo indicated that the project is to honour some communities members who lost their lives as a result of mining activities in their communities.

He added that full funding for the project has already been provided hence it is expected to be completed at the scheduled time.

District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Hon. Anthony Mensah in his remarks explained that the project is a result of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo’s commitment to ensure mining communities are developed. “It has often been noticed that most mining communities in this country are under development. Hence, the president upon assuming office ordered regulators to take steps in ensuring that mining communities are developed.”

Omanhene of Kenyasi No. 1, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri stated Nananom’s appreciation to the Minerals Commission for siting the project in the district and admonished the contractor to do a quality job.

General Manager for Newmont Goldcorp Ahafo mines, Mr. Yaw Okyere addressing the ceremony lauded the Minerals Commission and District Assembly for their initiative to construct the facility for the district.

“I am particularly happy that the regulators chose this community for this all-important project. Obviously, the choice of location is as a result of the presence of Ahafo mines and we are happy that our partners are coming to tray in supporting development in our host communities”; Mr. Okyere added.

The 5000-capacity complex will have a VIP stand, pitch, running tracks, press box, changing rooms, washrooms, car park, conference room, and horticulture with pavements.
