HEALTH SECTOR

The health situation in the district has been improving over the years. Significant improvements have been made in the eradication and elimination of diseases such as polio, guinea worm and cholera as no cases were reported in the district between the years 2009 to 2012. However, Malaria continues to be the largest contributor to the diseases in the district

The District has six (6) health facilities located at Kpetoe, Ziope, Adaklu Ahunda, Keyime, and Helekpe. There is also one (1) Salvation Army Clinic at Adaklu Sofa. Besides, there is one (1) CHPS Zone at Wudzedeke and others being built at Kpetsu, Kodiabe and Kodzobi. There is no hospital in the district. There are only two clinics located at Adaklu Tsrefe and Community clinic at Adaklu Torda. A private herbal clinic is sited at Agortime Beh, which also supports the health needs of the people.

The Health status of the people in the Distinct in general is improving. The commonest diseases remain malaria, skin diseases, acute respiratory infection and diarrhoea as shown in the table 7 above. However, some cultural and religious resistance to the use of modern drugs to treat illnesses still exists

1.  Family Planning acceptors 3,896 representing 12.5 percent from January to June, 2006.

  • Total couple year of protection for the half year is 718.62
  • Early teenage pregnancy 5 representing 0.4%
  •  Late teenage pregnancy 174 representing 14.6%
  • 1st trimester registrant 469 representing 39.4%
  • 2nd trimester registrant 613 representing 51.5
  • 3rd trimester registrant 168 representing 14.2 There were no maternal deaths.

HIV / AIDS

Information, Communication and Education has been carried out on the diseases in all the second cycle schools in the district using video coverage. Talks are also being given at the various health facilities in the District and at outreach clinics as well as churches throughout the district. The district has also prepared the HIV/AIDS strategic plan and has involved some CBOs and CSOs in the implementation of the plan.

Population Management

Health nurses and workers rendered Family Planning Services during their outreach activities in the communities. In service training in Family Planning Counselling has been organised for almost all the Midwives in the district to improve their services and to increase coverage. Family planning services are rendered by the mid-wives daily to women who go to them to deliver and follow up with post-natal services.

Health Education is given on family planning and its Advantages, at Child Welfare Clinics in Ho and during home visits by the community nurses. Family life Education (sex education) is also given Schools and Churches. Family Planning talks are given to males at their work places to get them more involved.
