The district has no district hospital hence it has no doctor. The ratio of nurses to patients is 1:3686 as compared to the regional ratio of 1:143. There is therefore a serious strain on the nurses available.

shows an improvement over the years in the antigen performance with the exception of measles and tetanus, which declined. However, measles vaccine shortage in the country in 2005 could have affected its coverage.

Top Ten (10) diseases seen at OPD attendance


Table 12 shows the top ten diseases in the district. Malaria is the topmost with 12,110 cases representing 62.5%. The high prevalence of malaria is explained by poor surroundings and the low use of ITNs by mothers in the district. It is estimated that only 17.3% of the population of the district seek medical attention at various health facilities in the district.

That 0.9% (17) were obese, 3.9% (78) were at risk of becoming obese   while 31.7% (623) were at risk of malnutrition implying that 36.5% of the adult population of the district have nutritional problems
