Amenfi Central (formerly Wassa Amenfi Central) District with its administrative capital Manso Amenfi was carved from Wassa Amenfi East by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2011 and forms part of the new districts and municipalities created in the year 2012 and were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012.


The District forms part of twenty two (22) Metropolitan, Municipalities and Districts in the Western Region of Ghana. The District shares boundaries with its mother District Wassa Amenfi East to the north, to the south with Nzema East Municipal, to the west with Aowin District and to the east with Wassa Amenfi East District.


The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 69,014 with 35,866 males and 33,148 females.
