Atwima Nwabiagya District is one of the largest districts in the Ashanti Region. The District established by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 1738, lies approximately on latitude 6o 75’N and between longitude 1o 45’ and 2o 00’ West. It is one of the 27 political and administrative Districts in Ashanti Region.
It is situated in the Western part of the region and shares common boundaries with Ahafo Ano South and Atwima Mponua Districts (to the West), Offinso Municipal to the North, Amansie–West and Bosomtwe-Atwima Kwanwoma Districts to the South, Kumasi Metropolis and Kwabre District to the East. It covers an estimated area of 294.84 sq km. The district capital is Nkawie.
The population of the district according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census stands at 149,025 With 71,948 males 77,077 females.
